“Sometimes a violently modified landscape appears as an opportunity to find a new ideal state that recognizes its historical process.”
The botanical remediation park arises with the idea of returning the landscape to its natural state, but maintaining the mark that gives it identity, in this case, the situation of massive material extraction that left a large well as a mark.
Alta Gracia is a city with strong mining activity, so its quarries are part of the collective memory of the inhabitants.
Based on this, we decided to think on a park that includes a re – mediation project, with the aim of recreating a habitat conducive to re-naturalizing the area and thus promoting the growth of flora and fauna, which throughout these years have lost progressively their natural habitat.
The actions on the quarry can be synthesized in three operations: 1 to reforest the plan and remedy the existing native flora, 2 to experience the cut and 3 to capture the edges.
1. Reforest the plan: incorporate masses of native vegetation that allow a gradual growth. Create a retention pond in the lowest area of the plane that can collect rainwater.
2. Live the cut: a catwalk tape is proposed that runs along the cliff and articulates the focal points of the program.
3. Capture the edge: the actions of incorporating programs that require covered surfaces or with “limits” are carried out with the idea of capturing the edges taking advantage of the existing unevenness with a light architecture. This is how steel is essential to think about the intervention proposal.
The greatest aspiration of this project is to revive a sector de – graded by humans near a city, in this case Alta Gracia, with a history of strong mining activity. Architecture tries to settle on the site understanding the dialogue between nature and buildings, one being indispensable to the other.
